Folklore: From its humble beginnings centuries ago, Hyssop took its name from the Greek word, "azob" meaning "holy herb". Hyssop is mentioned in the Bible, "Purge me with Hyssop and I shall be clean". Not only is Hyssop a beautiful addition to the garden with its abundant purple flowers which have a heavenly scent, it is one of the most recommended herbs to allay the common cold.

Hyssop contains camphor-like substances that help to loosen phlegm and also acts as an expectorant for thick catarrh. It promotes the elimination of toxins through sweating, hastening the passing of the common cold. It is recommended for upper respiratory infection as well as a stomach tonic and as an aid to digestion. It is a blood purifier and strengthener of the immune system while possessing antiviral properties which have been reputed to work in fighting HIV, AIDS and Herpes.
