Granny Good's Naturals is now offering beautiful hand-made African Market Baskets!
While beautifully crafted baskets are made throughout Africa, we believe none compare to the quality and craftsmanship of these baskets we have discovered from the village region of Bolgatanga in Northern Ghana. These baskets are completely hand-woven by families of many generations who are often vegetable farmers by trade, basket weavers by tradition. Using all natural Ghanian Kinkanhe straw and vibrant natural plant dyes, they are created in as many unique colors and patterns as they have household uses. From a gardening partner (we at Granny Good's Herb Farm use them for harvesting), to a grocery carrier; a picnic basket to the centerpiece of a fine living room. They are incredibly durable and strikingly beautiful.
Granny Good's Naturals firmly believes in fair trade principles that create environmentally conscious, community sustaining and economically advantaged conditions for all those we partner with. Basket weaving is a vital supplement to the incomes of these African families due to the fluctuating environmental conditions in the region which are not always a guarantee to the success of their farms. With every basket purchased, you support these econmically challenged families and receive a unique hand-made piece of usable art.
Our large Market Basket measures 14"-16" in diameter and 8"-10" deep.
Every basket is unique - a different color and pattern. You may request a color choice but we will not be able to guarantee it and will send you a beautiful basket regardless. Baskets are not returnable and may not be exchanged.
Your Market Basket will arrive folded. To shape, dip in the bathtub or spray with a garden hose to wet. Shape the basket (takes about 30 seconds) and allow to dry. Baskets may be reshaped any time.
